About Craps

Dice are a common tool for gambling that have been used for hundreds of years. The most recognised of these dice games in casinos is craps. The most commonly accepted version of the history of craps is that the game descended from an early-English game called hazard. This game was created during the Crusades at a siege on the castle Hazarth.

Craps utilises a betting layout that covers the entirety of a table (just like roulette). But unlike other casino games, players have the opportunity to throw the dice across the table.

Over time craps became an incredibly popular casino game and the creation of online casinos has meant that now every player has the opportunity to enjoy it. To this day, hundreds of thousands of players from all over the world enjoy playing it online.

What types of Craps I can play?

Las Vegas Craps (or Bank Craps) is the most common version of the game that is available in top online casinos, but there are a number of other variations that offer their own set of rules. Below we explain the key differences between them:

Las Vegas Craps – a popular version in the US. Las Vegas Craps has a special table layout that has a wire a few inches above the table surface that the dice must be thrown over.

New York Craps – this is another variation that has a different table to standard craps. New York Craps doesn’t allow ‘come’ or ‘don’t come’ bets.

Simplified Craps – the most straightforward version of the game. Players will win a bet if a 2, 3, 4, 10, 11 or 12 is rolled, but lose if a 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 are rolled.

Crapless Craps – a common online variation of the game, players are given the option to bet on rolling a 2, 3, 11 or 12 before a 7.

Live dealer Craps

It is possible to play online craps with both software and a live dealer. There are many providers offering the best craps software and live versions for you to enjoy. Playing with a live dealer uses streaming to bring the game to life in the comfort of your home. Players are able to see the table and place bets through the software.

Devices

Online roulette is available to play on all device platforms provided you have an Internet connection and the particular games provider allows features touch screen gaming.

How to play Craps

Playing craps in a casino can be intimidating, fortunately online craps makes the game process a lot easier by automating the shooter options and letting you click on the table where you want to place your bet.

It is important to recognise that game rules vary depending on the variation of games the craps casino provide, but the basics of the game hold true for most versions:

Each game of online craps is played in rounds that consist of the ‘come out’ and ‘point’ phases.

Come Out – a shooter (the player) starts a round by making a ‘come out’ first roll. If this roll is either a 2, 3, or 12, then the round ends. If this occurs then the shooter is said to ‘crap out’ and the player loses their pass line bets.

If the come out roll is either 7 or 11, then this is a win for pass line bets and a loss for the don’t pass bets. The shooter then continues to make come out rolls until they roll 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. This rolled number then becomes the ‘point’ and the point part of the game starts.

Point – if the shooter rolls a point number then it’s another win for the pass line bets. If a 7 is rolled then it is a loss and the round ends.

Players are able to bet before the roll of the dice, when playing online players will be able to see when the betting period is on or off. Every player is required to make a pass or don’t pass bet, they are also able to make a variety of bets on anything from single to multiple rolls.
